Candace Ducheneaux

is a Lakota matriarch and great grandmother from the Itazipco and Oohenunpa bands domiciled on the Cheyenne River Reservation. She is the Founder of Mní, Grassroots for Water Justice that works to protect and restore sacred water on Indigenous homelands. Candace has extensive experience fighting for indigenous rights to land, water and culture. (Yellow Thunder Camp, LaFromboise Island, Bear Butte, Očeti Šakowin Camp at Standing Rock among others)

Together with her children and grandchildren she is currently creating a sustainable community for her extended family, the Tatanka Wakpala Tiospaye, working with alternative building design, permaculture, traditional gardening, renewable energy, water restoration, and language revitalization that will function as a model for all of Turtle Island.
